I'm Frida Davidsson, a Swedish contemporary artist based in Los Angeles, currently working in oils. My art combines hyperrealism, surrealism, and symbolism, bringing together my love for technical precision, imaginative compositions, and deeper storytelling.
I've been drawn to art for as long as I can remember. Growing up in Gothenburg, Sweden, I was always drawing, but becoming a professional artist never seemed like a realistic career path. Instead, I pursued makeup artistry and hairstyling as a way to work creatively, eventually moving to Los Angeles with the ambition of becoming a special effects makeup artist in Hollywood. Instead, I ended up studying art at Santa Monica College, where I rediscovered the childhood dream I'd once thought was out of reach. I went on to earn my Associate degree in art.
Since then, my artistic journey has taken me in many directions, from private commissions and murals to body painting, live performances, and collaborations with musicians, celebrities, and brands. Each experience gave me opportunities to develop my skills, experiment with different subjects, and challenge myself creatively. For years, much of my art was centered around bringing other people's visions to life. While I still love the creative possibilities of commissions and collaborations, I've become increasingly drawn to exploring my own ideas and creating paintings that reflect my imagination and personal perspective.
My interest in psychology, spirituality, and consciousness is deeply connected to both my art and the way I experience life. I'm fascinated by how our thoughts and perspectives shape our reality, and how changing the way we look at something can transform how we experience it. Creativity allows me to explore these ideas and turn personal realizations into visual expression.
When I experience something difficult, I often look inward, question my perspective, and imagine new ways of understanding what I'm going through. This can lead to unexpected realizations and visual ideas that find their way into my paintings. Sometimes an idea appears fully formed, while other times its meaning unfolds as I paint, with new connections and symbolism emerging as the composition evolves. Painting becomes not only a way to express my thoughts, but also a way to explore and transform my perspective.
For me, every painting is its own creative journey. I love the challenge of bringing my imagination to life, combining realism, surrealism, and meaning in ways I couldn't always have predicted. What excites me most is discovering how far an idea can develop, and how much I can learn about myself and the world along the way.
